Millbrook takes home Gold Medal
Pineville, NC-- The Millbrook Wildcats traveled to Charlotte to compete in the 2014 Powerade State Games of North Carolina at the Carolina Courts. Despite playing without starting point guard Chris Clemons, the Wildcats breezed through days one and two of the tournament with an 80-48 win vs. Middle Creek and a nailbiter 60-57 vs. Ardrey Kell on day one, and they followed it with blowouts of Asheville and Hoke County on day two.
The Wildcats led by seniors Andrew Evans, Josh Peacock, Jordan Sterrett, and Robert Brown took their 4-0 record into a rematch of the Eastern Sectional Finals semi-final bout with Fayetteville's 71st on the morning of day three. Millbrook rose to the occasion once again defeating the Falcons 63-46 to advance to the afternoon's championship game.
All that stood between Coach McInnes' squad was a 1A school from Durham, Voyager Academy led by Chris Sause, and Jay Huff who had put up multiple double-double performances over the weekend. Against fierce competition, Andrew Evans and Robert Brown stepped up and led the team to a decisive 82-66 win to clinch the gold. Evans, a senior guard entering his second full varsity season scored 23 points while the three year varsity starter Brown added 21.
With the win, Millbrook took home the gold medal. It was the first time in school history that the Wildcats won it all at the State Games of North Carolina.
