Millbrook to Host Top Talent in Region
In conjunction with Phenom Hoop Report, Millbrook High School will host their second annual Millbrook Winter Showcase sponsored by Re/Max’s Millard Kirk. The twelve team showcase event will take place on Saturday, December 5th starting at 12PM and it features two NCHSAA State Champions from last season.
At 12PM, 6’6 3-Star Recruit, Kaiden Rice and Ridge View (Columbia, SC) will square off against Fayetteville Academy which features 6’3 Jon Gauer, and 6’6 Freshman, William Onyeobi.
Trinity Christian School from Fayetteville, NC returns to the showcase for a second straight year looking to avenge a 91-52 loss to Millbrook from last December. The Crusaders feature a trio of stars from the Freshman Class of 2019, headlined by 6’7 3-Star Recruit, Joey Baker who already fields offers from Western Carolina, and Charlotte. KJ Marshall, and Greg Gantt round out the freshman to watch on Trinity Christian, who will face off against Northwest Guilford (Greensboro, NC) at 1:30 PM. The Vikings will showcase three of the state’s premier guards including 5’11 Junior, Jalen Spicer who holds offers from UNCG and Florida International. Spicer is accompanied in the backcourt by 5’11 Senior, Jaylen Gore who averaged 14.8 PPG last season, and 6’4 Tre Turner who is a member of the Class of 2018. Turner, the half-brother of former UNC Tarheel, and current Charlotte Hornet PJ Hairston, already fields an offer to play football at Duke University and to play basketball at Maryland Eastern-Shore.
In the 3PM battle, Bishop Sullivan Catholic High School will make the trip from Virginia Beach, VA to take on Freedom Christian from Fayetteville, NC. 6’11 Coastal Carolina commit, Onyx Boyd leads Bishop Sullivan, who also features 6’3 senior guard Gerrard Simpkins, and 6’5 Junior, Lance Tebay who sports a 4.4 GPA. Freedom Christian boasts 6’4 Class of 2016 Forward, Lawrence Williams, and Todd Smith, a 6’4 Junior Point Guard.
The defending NCHSAA 2A State Champions in Terry Sanford (Fayetteville, NC) follow with a crosstown matchup against Village Christian (Fayetteville, NC) at 4:30 PM. The Bulldogs of Terry Sanford showcase a pair of brothers in 6’0 Malik Johnson (2018), and 6’2 Telligence Johnson (2017). 6’1 Duke Football signee, Mark Gilbert is another Terry Sanford guard to look out for along with 6’2 Senior, Justin King. Village Christian features newcomers, Nassyr Daniels, a 6’8 Forward, and Jarvez Ellis a 6’4 wing, both Class of 2017 members are formerly of Grays Creek HS. Jordan Ratliffe, another junior for the Knights, is a 6’0 guard to watch.
The defending NCHSAA 4A State Champions in Garner Magnet High School will battle cross-county rival, Neuse Christian Academy (Raleigh, NC) at 6PM. The Trojans return 6’2 Junior Thomas Allen from their team last season along with Alex Reed, a 6’4 Junior Forward. Nick Kuhns, a 6’3 Senior Guard, and 6’4 Sophomore Kenyon Burt should give the Lions a tough battle. Kaleb Hunter, a 6’5 Class of 2017 Guard leads Neuse Christian having already received offers from Charlotte, East Carolina, Hampton, Old Dominion, and UNCG. DJ Myers, another 6’6 Junior also has a Division I offer from Western Carolina. 5’9 Sophomore Maurice Wilcox will be one more player to watch for as he helps Hunter anchor the backcourt for Neuse.
Lastly, the host school in Millbrook (Raleigh, NC) will welcome Harrells Christian Academy from Harrells, NC at 7:30 PM. The HCA Crusaders are headlined by Quate McKinzie, the #11 player in North Carolina according to ESPN.com. McKinzie a 6’8 Forward committed to Buffalo, is a three star recruit. Marcus Scarborough is another Crusader to watch for, the 5’8 Guard is a member of the Class of 2016. For Millbrook, they feature 6’5 Senior Trejon Jacob who holds offers from Missouri Southern State, and Fayetteville State along with 6’6 Senior Faison Brock who fields an offer from Fayetteville State. The Wildcats also showcase Junior’s 6’5 Patrick Dorsey, and 6’1 Jordan Whitfield. Whitfield currently holds an offer from Campbell University where his brother, Shane is a starting forward for the Camels.
The first game starts at 12PM, and each game is scheduled to follow 90 minutes later with the final game taking place at 7:30 PM. Admission is $12 and no passes are accepted at the gate, a $12 ticket will grant access to all six games.
