2014-15 Midseason Recap

The halfway point of the season is approaching as the Wildcats take on Sanderson this Friday, we decided to take a look back on the first half of the season with interviews, highlights, and a look ahead to the remainder of the Road to Chapel Hill.

Coming off of a trip to the Eastern Regional Final, Coach McInnes's Wildcats were hungry to take the court for another installment of Millbrook Basketball and they did so with a bang as they welcomed East Wake to town and dispatched of the Warriors 93 to 47. Three players scored over 20 points that night led by Chris Clemons' 24.

Up next was a trip through the proverbial non-conference gauntlet as Millbrook embarked on a three game road trip to Northern Durham, Knightdale, and the defending state champions in Apex. Game 1 of the road trip saw Chris Clemons go for his second career high of the season with 35 points along with Jordan Sterrett who picked up his first career double-double in an 88-73 win. Millbrook's highest scoring total of the season followed four nights later when they posted 98 vs Knightdale. Newcomer, Trejon Jacob had a season high 20 points and Faison Brock used his three point stroke to add 15 in the victory. The road swing concluded with a 79-60 win at Apex. Four players scored in double digits led by Rob Brown's 18 and Trejon Jacob's 17.

One of the biggest games of the season was next on the schedule as the Wildcats had to defend their homecourt against Trinity Christian in front of a sold out crowd. The Crusaders featured one of the top recruits in the country in Dennis Smith Jr. but it was Chris Clemons who stole the show. The senior point guard scored 32 points along with 3 blocks en route to a 91-52 drubbing of the defending private school state champions. Middle Creek gave the blue and white a run for their money 48 hours later but once again Millbrook prevailed behind Clemons' heroics as he went for a career high 38 points, the 2nd most in a single game in school history.

Cap-8 play began two nights later and the new look Wildcats tacked on a pair of 96 point victories vs. Enloe and Wake Forest. Andrew Evans and Robert Brown boosted their scoring totals with 13 plus point efforts both nights. MaxPreps.com took notice to the team's 8-0 start as the morning of their dual with 8-0 Broughton, Millbrook was ranked #1 in the state of North Carolina for the first time in school history. With one of the top 10 offenses in the nation, it was the Wildcats' defense that would push them to victory over the rival Capitals as the 'Cats narrowly escaped defeat with a 72-67 win.

Robert Brown flirted with history to start the Holiday break as he moved within 4 points of 1,000 in his career in a 91-59 win over Hoggard, it was the day after Christmas that he became the 4th player in school history to eclipse the monumental feat as Millbrook opened the HighSchoolOT.com Invitational with a 87-71 win over Garner. Chris Clemons would add 36 points to kick off the tournament and the next day he showed the sold crowd that he was just warming up as he put up 37 vs. the 3 time state champion Kinston Vikings and 33 in a rematch against Broughton that saw Millbrook's perfect 12-0 record take a hit with a four point loss to the Caps in the Tournament Championship. Andrew Evans helped ring in the new year with performances of 18 and 19 points in Millbrook's wins over Wakefield and Heritage. 2015 has seen Evans' light it up from beyond the arc as the 6'1 senior knocked down 6 three's last week.

Here are notable numbers to look at going into the second half include Millbrook's record which stands at 14-1, 5-0 in the Cap-8 Conference. The Wildcats are scoring 87.3 Points per game and only allowing 61.8 per contest. They enter Friday's game as the #2 ranked team in North Carolina according to MaxPreps along with being ranked in the Top 60 in the country. Chris Clemons currently leads Millbrook in scoring with over 24 points per game. His historic senior campaign has been highlighted by scoring 30 plus points six times this season. Faison Brock currently leads Millbrook in rebounding and has accounted for three of the team's five double-doubles this season, most notably the 6'5 Junior had 13 points and 14 rebounds against Broughton on December 30th.
