Alumni Report: Season Recaps
The 2014-15 Basketball season saw eight former Wildcats shine on the hardwood from the Division III level all the way up to the NBA D-League and German Elite Leagues. As these alums' season's come to a close, we take a look back on how they did for their respective schools and organizations.
-Class of 2014-
Jake Wilson, Division II Lenoir Rhyne: Jake averaged just over three points a night over his three seasons as a Wildcat but took his game to the next level upon graduation from Millbrook. As the first 7'0+ player in Lenoir Rhyne's history, Jake started 23 of the Bears' 26 games and led them in rebounding on eight occasions. He posted his first career double-double on December 10th in a four point loss to Carson-Newman as Wilson had a season high 17 points to go along with 10 boards. He finished his first season in Hickory averaging 6.9 points per game, and 5.4 rebounds per game. Lenior Rhyne's season concluded on February 28th with a loss to Mars Hill. The Bears finished the season 8-18, 6-16 in the South Atlantic Conference.
Rha'Kwon Bryant, Division II Lenoir Rhyne: Rha'Kwon followed Jake down to Hickory to suit up for Lenoir Rhyne. He redshirted this season as a Freshman and expects to be an athletic 6'5 wing in the coming years for Head Coach, John Lentz. Rha'Kwon played 9 minutes in two exhibition games this preseason and posted 4 points and 1 rebound in a loss to the Tennessee Volunteers. Lenior Rhyne's season concluded on February 28th with a loss to Mars Hill. The Bears finished the season 8-18, 6-16 in the South Atlantic Conference.
Carlee Clemons, Division II Lincoln Memorial: Clemons signed with Division II powerhouse Lincoln Memorial late in the summer and sat out all of his freshman campaign due to an injury. Carlee was recently cleared by doctors to return to action at 100% speed. The Railsplitters, who are currently ranked #5 in the country in the national Division II polls, have visions of Clemons being a point guard for their team as he is already one of the most athletic players on their roster. Lincoln Memorial has the South Atlantic Conference Tournament coming up next as they face Brevard on March 4th before embarking on the NCAA DII Tournament.
-Class of 2012-
Adrian Atkinson, Division III North Carolina Wesleyan: Adrian began his second season with the Battling Bishops and saw action in seven games during his sophomore season. He averaged 1 point per game and had a season high 3 points in seven minutes against Virginia Wesleyan on December 31st. NC Wesleyan's season concluded on February 22nd with a win on the road at Ferrum to wrap up their 13-12 season.
-Class of 2011-
Marcus Johnson, Division I Samford: Marcus played one year for the Wildcats and helped lead them to the 2011 4A State Championship. From there, the 5'11 Guard went the Junior College route to Wallace State in Alabama before moving on to Division I Samford. He has appeared in 31 games for the Bulldogs this season and made his first career Division I start in the team's regular season finale vs. VMI on February 28th. He averaged 6.1 points per game in the regular season along with 2 rebounds per contest. Johnson has scored in double figures eight times this season including 18 points vs. UNC Greensboro on January 22nd, and then he had a season high five three pointers en route to a 20 point performance vs. East Tennessee State on January 5th. Marcus and the Bulldogs will play in the SoCon Tournament this week as they face UNCG in Asheville, NC on March 6th.
-Class of 2010-
Tyrrel Tate, NBA D-League Idaho Stampede: Tyrrel became the second player in program history to go on to play professional basketball as he was selected in the 7th Round of the 2014 NBA D-League Draft out of Fayetteville State by the Idaho Stampede, the NBADL affiliate of the Utah Jazz. He averaged 14.3 minutes per game in his 25 games played this season, scoring 4.2 points per game while grabbing 2.8 rebounds per game. He had double digit performances on three occasions during the season including a season high 12 vs. the Los Angeles D-Fenders on November 22nd. On February 8th, Tyrrel was put on waivers by the Stampede and eventually released.
Donzell Hill, Division II Fayetteville State: Donzell appeared in 25 games this season for the Broncos and started in 5 of them. The 6'5 Forward averaged over 20 minutes a night and nearly posted a double-double a game as he averaged 10.3 points per contest along with 7.1 rebounds. He 13 points in the season opener vs. Cheyney then recorded perfomances of 16 and 17 points vs The Lincoln University and Shaw University respectively. Hill also played 20 minutes vs. UNC in an exhibiton contest on October 24th and had 10 points and 5 rebounds against the Tarheels.
-Class of 2000-
Jonathan Moore, Beko Basketball League Crailsheim Merlins: Moore was inducted into the Millbrook Hall of Fame in October of 2014 after playing 9 seasons professionally in 4 different countries. This year, he has begun his 3rd season with Germany's Crailsheim Merlins where he has led the team in scoring and been a starting power forward for the last two seasons. The Merlins have not experienced as much success in 2014-15 as they have before by posting a 5-19 record three quarters of the way through the season. Despite a last place standing, Moore has once again experienced personal success with the Merlins as he is averaging 8.5 points per game and 4.1 rebounds per night. He has twice scored 15 points this season, the first coming on October 2nd when he put together his only double-double of the season as he grabbed 11 rebounds to accompany his 15 points vs. Bayreuth. Then, he scored 15 vs. Fraport SKY on January 4th. Jonathan has started 14 of the 17 games that he has played in this season but has sat out the team's previous four contests. Crailsheim has ten games left this season, the next to be played on Saturday March 7th at home vs. EWE Baskets. Their season concludes on April 30th.
