104 Points sends Millbrook to Regional Finals
Back at the 4A Eastern Regionals for the fifth time in the last six seasons, the Wildcats felt like they had a little unfinished business on their hands as they have yet to win the two games necessary to make it to the state championship in their last three turns. They took a huge step on Thursday night as they scored 104 points to defeat Seventy First in the Regional Semi-Finals.
Andrew Evans has had a roller coaster playoff run as he scored 20 points in the first round before only posting twelve combined points in rounds two and three. Tonight, the 6'1 senior guard took matters into his own hands and assured that he would not have a repeat of his performances on Monday and Tuesday. He pulled down two early rebounds and added a steal three minutes in that led to a dunk to tie the score at 6-6. He would continue to drive to the cup along with several pull up shots that he got to fall. Going into halftime, Evans would have 15 points and 5 boards. Chris Clemons led the Wildcats going into intermission with 16 points, much like Evans, he found success blowing by the Seventy First defense while mixing in some shots from long range. Rob Brown would also score in double digits in the half with 10 points. What was a close game halfway through the first would start to appear out of hand at halftime with Millbrook leading Seventy First, 53-32.
Faison Brock would put together a solid night with 13 points. Most of his damage was done when cleaning up the offensive glass. He had 7 points in the final moments of the 1st half and added several more putback layups in the 3rd and 4th Quarters. Trejon Jacob joined Brock, Brown, Evans, and Clemons as Wildcats to finish in double digits. The 6'4 Forward finished with 11 points including an and-one in the second half in which he drove to the lane, spun, and finished with the basket and the foul. Jacob would also take a feed from John Burwell to the basket for the Wildcats' 100th point of the night. Thursday marked the third time that Millbrook has passed the century mark this season. For those who expected a chippy contest, the game lived up to that bill. 71 combined fouls were called and 100 free throw attempts were made between the two teams. Four technical fouls were charged to the Falcons and as the horn sounded to wrap up the Wildcats' 104-79 win, an opposing player shoved a Wildcat to the court as he was attempting to line up to shake hands. A hard nosed contest finished in favor of the blue and white who advance to the 4A Eastern Regional Final for a second straight season. Clemons led Millbrook with 24 points on the night, Brown and Evans each added 21 points, for Andrew Evans he recorded his first career double-double as he accompanied his 21 points with a career high 10 rebounds.
