2014 Alum, Wilson picks App State

Jake Wilson, a graduate of the Class of 2014 announced on Friday afternoon that he is transferring to Division I Appalachian State. Wilson was a three year letterwinner at Millbrook and started his final two years as a Wildcat. Jake played his Freshman season at Lenoir Rhyne University where he was the first ever 7'0 player in program history. He started 23 of the Bears' 26 games and averaged 6.9 Points and 5.4 Rebounds per game.

Wilson averaged 3.7 PPG at Millbrook. He was a 2nd Team All-Conference member during his Senior season and helped lead the Wildcats to the NCHSAA Final Four in 2014. He participated in two Regionals and was named to the East All-Star team in the NCCA All-Star Game in July 2014. Jake scored 4.7 PPG during his final campaign with Millbrook and posted a season high 11 points on February 24th vs. Person County in the first round of the playoffs. His career high came on November 30th, 2012, when the then 6'10 Wilson scored 16 points and grabbed 12 rebounds in a loss to Apex.

At Lenoir Rhyne, Jake led the Bears' in rebounds on eight occasions and he led the team in scoring three times. He posted two double-doubles including a 17 point, 10 rebound performance vs. Carson Newman. Due to NCAA rules, Wilson will have to sit out the 2015-16 season but he looks at it as an opportunity to prepare for the Division I level as he says that "it gives me a chance to get bigger and stronger along with expanding my game, especially on offense".

Jake is the third Wildcat alum to actively play Division I basketball (Marcus Johnson, Samford and Chris Clemons, Campbell). Appalachian State plays in the Sun Belt Conference under coach, Jim Fox. Last season, the Mountaineers finished 12-17, Wilson says "they're a program that is in a rebuilding process and I am excited about the direction that they're going" he also notes that "their constant interest in me, and their facilities really attracted me to their program; they were the first school that called when I showed interest in transferring". At 7'0 tall, Wilson becomes the tallest player currently in their program and he will get an opportunity to work with ASU assistant coach, Bryan Lentz, whose father, John coached Jake at Lenoir Rhyne.
